Data-Driven Entrepreneurship
Through his career as an entrepreneur, Dr. Ed Powell has been part of founding 11 different ventures (so far) solving a wide variety of different problems across sectors. From healthcare to pest control to air travel and many things in-between, each of these start-ups have used model-based artificial intelligence to help organizations make better business decisions. His "main" job is his role as CEO of IPX, a software company that manages large Intellectual Property portfolios and provides innovation-related advisory and monetization services to universities and corporations. IPX also partners with inventors and entrepreneurs to help them build companies and leverage this proven "data-driven entrepreneurship" approach to bring their own inventions to market.
Prior to his move to the commercial sector, Dr. Powell was a Member of the Technical Staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory, where he focused on large scale data fusion and the application of Artificial Intelligence to the command and control of surveillance satellites. The algorithms he developed for modeling satellite trajectories are still the core of many of these companies' economic optimization technologies. Dr. Powell received his PhD and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University.
Anyone interested in Entrepreneurship, the real world applications of Data and Decisions, or how engineering and business can intersect is highly encouraged to attend Dr. Powell's talk.
