Karanja Gakio is the currently the Operation Lead of emerging markets at Google. Mr Gakio has had a vast experience in the IT development sector. He began his career studying for a BS in Aeronautics and Astronomic at Harvard University. Thereafter, he did an MSc in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. It was at university that Gakio began participating in internet development and was even a pioneer of a publication that focussed on technology developments in Africa.  

Over the course of his career, Mr Gakio has graduated from been a software engineer to holding multiple high-level positions such as being the founder and CEO of Africa Online which was the first pan-African internet services company. He currently sits on the board of Afric Xpress Services
