MD Ramesh

Olam International
President and Regional Head
Durban Area, South Africa
MD Ramesh is excited to get to see you on campus! As President and Regional Head of Olam International, we have the honor to host him on campus more than once as he has fallen in love with the students and is ready to engage more with them!

For questions from what his first job was, to how Africa can realise its true potential, MD Ramesh has answered some interesting opinions in this article here!

He mentions on his LinkedIn on how he wrote a book with a friend of his! Check it out!

"A friend and colleague from Olam, Ranveer Singh Chauhan and I have written and published a book recently. On a combined basis we have about 45 years of experience in setting up, investing and managing the affairs of Africa’s largest agri-business.. The book is a short story format and shares our experiences across sub Saharan Africa. There are 25 stories in all, which fits in with Olam’s 25th year anniversary this year. Sunny Verghese, our Group CEO, has kindly written the foreword for the book.

The two of us independently chose to pursue work opportunities in Africa after brief stints in corporate India in early 1990s. We first met at the Olam office in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1993. Our long friendship, shared experiences and a common employer allowed us to work together on several professional and personal projects and this book is one more happy project we conceived and share as a team.

We have been greatly influenced by our long experiences in Africa and are often invited by industry forums to speak about the opportunities in the continent. The book brings together many of our experiences and learning and shares them with a broader, bigger world.
Our book would bring back pleasant memories to anyone who has ever lived and worked in Africa and would be especially useful to young people looking to embark on a career in Africa – just as we did over two decades ago. We would like to imagine that the book will be an integral part of their travel packs and will add to their knowledge and insights on Africa.

A colleague and an acclaimed writer herself, Ananya Mukherjee was our guru and editor.

The book can be purchased online:
